What does Green mean?
Here is a list of eco-friendly terms that you will come across and examples to help you make an imformed decision.
Eco-friendly - implies that a product, material or process is friendly to the environment. Example = products that are made from recycled materials.
Organic - products that are produced without using fossil-fuel based fertilizers, synthetic pesticides, or genetically modified plants. Example = t-shirts made from organic cotton.
Sustainble / Renewable - made from materials that can be replenised easily. Example = products that are made from corn based plastic.
Reusable - products that are to be used repeatably over time. Example = using our organic cotton tote bag when grocery shopping instead of plastic or paper bags.
Recycled - made from recycled material that come from previously used consumer products (post consumer waste); manufacturing scraps that would be thrown away (post industrial waste); or other waste. Example = mugs that have made from retail packaging.
Recyclable - produced using materials that can be recycled in usable products. Example - paper from a notepad.
Compostable / Biodegradable - manufactured from materials able to decompose safely in the environment. Example - degradable plastic bags that break down into water and carbon dioxide.
